Craig Calfee:

The driving force behind Bamboosero is Craig Calfee. As Craig said in a recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle, the idea of bringing his bamboo bike project came to him after a trip to Africa in the early 1980s. Since then, the idea has grown and gathered momentum as we've added partners.

Calfee has designed numerous types of bicycles using bamboo. Including, a track show bike, tandem bicycles, dutch bikes, an award winning road bike, as well as various other styles of bamboo bicycles. These are examples of the versatility, performance, and beauty bamboo brings to cycling.

Dagoberto "Dago" Alcantar:

"I was born in Mexico and have been in the USA since 1991. I met Craig Calfee through some friends and have been working for him for 10 years now. It's an art working with natural things like the bamboo. I enjoy working with it and with this company."

Rafael "Rafa" Avelar:

"I was born in San Salvador and arrived to the USA in 2003. Thanks to my brother and some friends I met Craig Calfee. I have been working for Calfee for 6 years now. I like bamboo mountain bicycles. I also enjoy working with anything related to bicycles."

Suzanne Hartley:

Starting in 1994, armed with her business degree and her aspiration to work with people in myriad capacities for the betterment of their lives, Suzanne took to the road. Since then she has resided and worked internationally for 10+ years. Her experiences range from high-level mediation in the high tech Japanese/American semi-conductor industry to small enterprise development facilitation in small African villages. She and Craig began exploring the possibilities of Bamboosero in her Peace Corps village in February 2008; their discussions quickly grew as they learned about the potential of the local people in developing areas. Suzanne's drive for healthy living as well as healthy challenges keep her networking and collaborating to share these efforts, towards life standard improvements for all.

Aaron Kaufman:

Aaron earned a business degree at university and has had various employment opportunities since.  Originally from Maine, Aaron has taken to the western outdoor culture.  He worked for two seasons aboard the Carlyn, a 62 foot Yawl based out of Bainbridge Island, for Salish Sea Expeditions. Aaron has been a bicycle tour guide showing guests stretches of road up and down the Oregon coast and in the San Juan Islands. His love for BikePacking has him seeking rides that may endure for weeks.  He is always excited to share the learning experiences and fun times presented by adventures in the field.
